Maintenance
The secret of a good watch is that it does not need to be too fast - it just needs to keep the right time.
However, to give it the chance of keeping the time accurately you need to let a watchmaker cast his expert eye over it from time to time and, if necessary, give it a service. Most watch manufacturers recommend that a mechanical watch be overhauled every four years. For quartz watches the time intervals vary according to the life of the battery. Instead of waiting until the battery is dead and the watch stops working, it is better to change the battery every two years as a preventive measure and have the watch case and strap cleaned at the same time. If you really have to go into the water with your waterproof watch, you must have the case and crown seals changed every year because the seals are not resistant to ageing. Ideally, you should have this work done before the start of the swimming season.
